Before the first meeting on Sept. 3rd (Tue.), students must complete the following things.
The provisional program of the course and design practice:
| Week 週次 | Date 日期 | Topic 主題 | 運用AI工具的適合時機 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sept. 3 | Introduction of the course and formulating a design challenge | |
| 2 | Sept. 10 | [Understand and Observe] Students will interview or observe users and chosen contexts to discover design opportunities. | |
| 3 | Sept. 17 | Mid-Autumn Holiday | |
| 4 | Sept. 24 | [Validating their assumptions] We will guide students to use RAG AI systems and relative database to validate their findings. | V |
| 5 | Oct. 1 | [POV: Defining Design Problems] Students will write a design brief to describe who the target users are and what they need or want in which contexts. | |
| 6 | Oct. 8 | [Ideation] Students will use generative AI tools (e.g., Dall-E 2 or ChatGPT) to create design ideas. We will guide students to use the tools to broaden their creativities and out-of-the-box thinking rather than simply generating images for the student. | V |
| 7 | Oct. 15 | [Design Synthesis] Students will evaluate ideas and merging selected ones to form 3-5 concepts. | |
| 8 | Oct. 22 | [Test: Design Evaluation] Students will narrow their concepts down to 2 proposals. | |
| 9 | Oct. 29 | [Video Prototyping] Students will direct and produce a scenario video to showcase the intended interaction design and user experiences. | |
| 10 | Nov.5 | [Test: Design Critique] We will host a midterm exhibition and design critique event for students to present their concepts and gain constructive feedback from the teacher and invited audience. | |
| 11 | Nov. 5-Nov.26 | [Prototyping] Students will learn to use ChatGPT and relative tools to help them make experienceable prototypes that a target user can interact with and tell designers what they feel or experience. We will also use a 3D Printer to facilitate students’ interactive process in generating creative forms and evaluate the possible outcomes for improving the designs quickly. | V |
| 12-14 | Dec. 3 | [Design Evaluation with Target Users] Students will setup their design with imaginary contexts and invite target users to interact with their artifacts. They will use quantitative or qualitative methods to collect data for understanding users’ experiences. | |
| 15 | Dec. 10 | [Data Analysis] Students will analyze the data in accordance with those collected from the evaluation study. | V |
| 16 | Dec. 17 | [Storytelling: Final Presentation] Students will exhibit their design concepts as well as their findings of their user experience studies. We will also ask students to write down one-page reflections on the whole design process and usage of AI related tools. | |
